Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, has said that “insufficient progress” made on reliability was one of the reasons why the German carrier has left THE Alliance with Ocean Network Express (ONE), HMM and Yang Ming to form the Gemini Cooperation with Maersk.
The new partnership, which will start in February 2025, aims to deliver a more reliable, flexible and interconnected ocean network and will comprise a fleet of 290 vessels with a combined capacity of 3.4m teu.
In November 2023, Hapag-Lloyd recorded 54% schedule reliability and one of the primary objectives of the cooperation with Maersk is to raise this to more than 90% once the network is fully phased in.
