Container throughput at Port of Rotterdam increases by 2% in first nine months of 2024

The number of port calls to Rotterdam is lower than last year

The Port of Rotterdam has recorded a 2% growth in container throughput to 10.4m teu in the first nine months of this year due to increasing consumer spending in Europe.

Spending is rising again after a period of lower purchasing power and stocks that were run down after the pandemic are now back to their previous levels.

Container volumes in tonnes also increased by 3% to 101.1m tonnes but total throughput slightly decreased by less than 1% to 328.6m tonnes, mainly due to lower throughput of coal and crude oil.
