Excluding the extraordinary item, the company said it had net profit of US$281m in the first six months, 36% more than the US$206m earned in the first half of 2010.
Revenue was of US$1.5bn in the first half of the year, 3% more than the US$1.46m in the first half of 2010 with first half container volumes up 11% to 26.2m compared to the 23.7m in the same period last year.
CEO Mohammed Sharaf called the results “an excellent start to the year,” and noted; “historically the second half of the year has been stronger than the first half.” However, he also warned that the outlook for the second half of 2011 remained uncertain because of the health of the global economy.
