The UK’s Foreign Secretary has floated the idea of building a bridge over the ‘English Channel’ to France.
At an Anglo-French Summit, minister Boris Johnson discussed the idea with French President Emmanuel Macron who is reported to have reacted positively.
The idea of a Channel Bridge and a three-lane highway was proposed in 1981 but was rejected as ships would find it hard to navigate the bridge’s pylons. Instead, a tunnel connecting the UK and France was opened in 1994.
