The Port of Gothenburg recorded an 8% increase in container volumes to 242,000 teu in the first four months of this year, achieving a record figure for the port over a four-month period, due to a surge in imports.
High export volumes contributed to 2023 being the best year for the Port of Gothenburg in container handling but imports fell by 20% because of high interest rates and a weakened Swedish krona, which led to reduced consumer demand.
However, imports of container goods have increased year-on-year by 11% and have almost returned to pre-pandemic levels.
